Signal (Research Development)
The Signal queue
How help requests and signaled-interest items reach RD staff and how they get claimed.
Updated 5/14/2026
The Signal queue is where Research Development sees everything faculty have raised: help requests, signaled interest on matches, and newly shared opportunities. It's the daily working surface for RD staff.
What lands in the queue
- Help requests — questions a faculty member opened on a specific opportunity.
- Signaled interest — faculty who clicked Signal Interest on a match.
- Shared opportunities — items routed to RD via the share action.
Claiming an item
Click Claim on any item to assign it to yourself. Claimed items move to your personal queue and are visible (but read-only) to the rest of the team so nobody duplicates work.
Claims are soft
Another staff member can release or re-claim an item. There is no hard lock — claims are about coordination, not exclusivity.
Responding
Open the item to read the full context, the faculty profile, and the opportunity. Reply inline; the response goes back to the faculty member's inbox and (if their settings allow) by email.
Filters and search
- Status — open, claimed by me, claimed by team, resolved.
- Type — help request, signaled interest, shared opportunity.
- Department or college — narrow to the units you support.
- Search — text search over titles, faculty names, and message bodies.
